Speak Now  1989

"It wasn’t a conscious decision for me to make a ‘pop’ record at first, but as I started writing more and experiencing all these different things, I realized that the songs I’d written in the first sort of year or so after Red was released, I’d outgrown. For me, I feel like there’s a period in-between albums where I start to become aware that the sound is changing and it stops becoming a continuation of the old record and evolves into a completely new project. With 1989, it was around this point that I sort of addressed the fact that the material I was just obsessed with, the songs I couldn’t not have on the record, well they had this really signature sound.. and so we just decided that 1989 would be my first official genre-stamped ‘pop’ album."
